Japan Homes

What to Know Before You Order
Natural wood. Genuine care.
Long-term reward.
A hinoki bath rewards those who care for it properly. The following notes help ensure your bath performs beautifully for many years.
Avoid over-drying
After each use, leave a small amount of water in the bath to prevent the wood from drying and cracking excessively.
Ventilation is essential
Good airflow around and above the bath prevents mould and extends the life of the timber significantly.
Avoid harsh chemicals
Only use cleaners designed for natural wood baths. Harsh chemicals will damage the surface and remove natural oils.
Regular maintenance
Periodic application of food-grade mineral oil or dedicated hinoki care product maintains the wood and aroma.
Made to order
All baths are produced in Japan upon order confirmation. Lead times are typically 8–16 weeks and are confirmed at the time of order.
Confirm access and dimensions
Hinoki baths are heavy and solid. Confirm doorway widths, staircase access, and floor loading capacity with your builder before ordering.

Frequently Asked Questions
Questions from serious buyers.
A hinoki bath is a traditional Japanese wooden bathtub handcrafted from hinoki cypress, a timber prized for over a thousand years in Japan for its natural aroma, antibacterial properties, warmth to the touch, and beautiful grain. Unlike porcelain or acrylic, hinoki offers a completely different sensory experience — calming, warm, and naturally fragrant.

Natural wood requires attentive but simple care. Leave a small amount of water in the bath when not in use to prevent over-drying. Ensure good ventilation. Use only wood-safe cleaners — never harsh chemicals. Periodically apply food-grade mineral oil or a dedicated hinoki care product to maintain the surface and aroma.
