Summery Of 2017
There have been already 12 years since when I started carpenter’s vocational school, aiming for a carpenter that I have never done in Japan in 2005. At that time I was doing farming and surrounded by 20 cattle while making a lot of vegetables in the middle of a big pasture.
The school and the apprenticeship were going smoothly, however,
In the Lehman shock of 2008, there were no companies hiring a foreigner with little knowledge and experience like me.
In that case, the situation became “There is no choice so I need to make it myself”. Therefore, I founded Japan Homes in 2008.
We now are in the end of 2017, the 10th year of business as a milestone.
It was a suitable year for the tenth year.
We were able to be involved in the construction of 7 new homes, 15 remodelling and 20 design projects.
Since this year was aimed at strengthening construction management capability,
I have spent consciously longer time to be on site.
There are a lot of things that I realised so also strengthened work checksheets and IT management system.
Interestingly, basically what I noticed that were important were already written in reflection notes almost ten years ago and were something very basic like what you would learn at an elementary school lower grade in Japan if you were a student.
It is that we understand in the brain but have not penetrated deeply into each work staff and workers.
To penetrate these we have selected the Japanese saying “Bonjitettei” (do basics).
- To pick up garbage
- To clean up
- Be on time
- To Greet people
At first sight, these are too simple and boring but I have kept doing and asked our workers and subs to cooperate repeatedly.
As a result, I think there was a very good outcome.
For example, for a large renovation work that if other companies do they would probably take about two or three months but we were able to complete in almost half the time.
We just prepared for the construction thoroughly before it actually begins.
There are things that we did not necessarily do for our business during these 10 years, however, I really appreciate our customers, subs and everyone who have supported us.

2005年、20頭の牛に囲まれて、大きな牧場の真ん中でたくさんの野菜を作りながら、
日本でもしたことがない大工を目指して、大工の専門学校に通い始めてから今年で12年。
学校も見習いもそれなりに順調にきていたが、
2008年のリーマンショックでどこの会社も仕事がなく、
知識も経験も少ない外国人を雇ってくれる会社はなかった。
それなら、チャンスは「自分で作るしかない」という状況になり、ジャパンホームズを設立した2008年。
あれから、節目の10年目の2017年の年末を迎える。
10年目にふさわしい年であった。
新築7軒、増改築15軒、新築設計20軒の工事に携わることができた。
本年度は、施工管理力の強化を目標にしていたので、
「現場にいる時間」を意識的に長くした。
本当にいろいろと気づくことがあり、チェックシートやIT化の強化などに努めた。
面白いことに、基本的にほぼ10年前の反省ノートに書いてあることが多かったし、
日本であれば、小学校低学年で教わるような、
基本に忠実な当たり前のことばかりだった。
理解しているけど、
「現場へ浸透させていなかった」ということになる。
浸透させるために、
今年の途中に決めた「社内ミッション」の言葉として、
凡事徹底(DO BASIC)
を選んだ。

整理整頓する
時間を守る
挨拶は気持ちよくする
一見、地味でつまらない基本的なことを
愚直なまでに繰り返したし、繰り返し関係者に協力してもらった。
その結果、かなりの収穫があったと思う。
具体的な例としては、
他社が2-3ケ月位かかると言われた大き目の改築の仕事を
ほぼ半分の時間で完了することができた。
私達は愚直に周到な準備、対応をしただけである。
10年間、色々と遠回りしてきた部分もあるが、
応援をしてくれたお客様や関係者には本当に感謝しています。

- Born in Japan in 1973. At University I learned Japanese History.
After graduation, I worked at a major Dental material company as a top salesman. In 2002 I firstly set my foot on land in New Zealand, and have started to engage in NZ Construction firm since 2004. From the 8 years' experiences at construction sites and sales experiences in Japan, I devote myself to satisfy customers from consultation to construction and after care services.
Within the first 4 years after the foundation, half of Japan Homes' customers were similar ages of mine. So that their life environment such as a number of children were also similar to mine therefore I was able to understand the customers' situations and wants more. Meanwhile there are also many customers of my father's generation, which is always appreciated because I can learn lots of good things from them.
We try our best to provide services that you satisfy, such as schedule, quality and after care service.
"I can trust you with any projects." "You are the man who I can rely on when I am in trouble." I enjoy working to get these words more times and to create as more smiles as possible.
